Gray is here to stay! The full range of grays have taken over the design world like no other in the past decade. And for good reason. The variety of shades, tones and hues make it a versatile choice for those wanting something neutral but not beige.
The “greige” trend has become a staple rather than just a passing fancy, like several of the “colors of the year” we have seen lately. (Remember Orchid- not a flattering color and very hard to work with.)
And, it is used in all rooms of the house, and with all styles from modern to traditional. The good news is that there is a wide variety of gray rugs to choose from to complement other grays in the space or to provide a neutral ground for complementary colors you may use. There are stripes, graphic designs, traditional and transitional styles, pretty much anything you might want, including shag rugs.
Here are a dozen reason gray’s not going away. Which one would you put in the room above?
“Grey is calm and soothing and, despite being equated with rainy, cloudy days, in the home gray is the opposite of dreary. Gray presents itself as the perfect backdrop to any style from classic to modern to contemporary. All furniture styles look well with grey and all sorts of colors from pinks, blues, purples, and citrus pair delightfully with this new neutral.” – Freshome @freshome
Jennifer Ott, an interior designer and color specialist says “Using gray as a neutral is like wearing blue jeans that can be paired with just about any top,” says Ott. “With today’s interiors, blues, greens, purples, pinks and oranges are all really popular, and you can find a gray that works with any of them.” @jenott
“Grays come in a wide array of shades, some on the warm side with more beige undertones and some on the cool side, with more blue and green undertones. It is important to remember when using a plethora of different grays that it is a must to match the color value. Staying with either warm grays or cool grays is a great way to ensure that your gray room will look amazing.” – Erika Barczak of Design Interiors
